Yesterday, February 9th, was the first ever Really Free Mobile Market. Everything went really well, much better than I had even expected, and most of all, it was fun! I met a lot of really great people who were excited about the market and wanted to help out in the future.
A surprising amount of people came considering how cold and windy it was, so as it gets warmmer I'm expecting it to really take off. I was also, admittedly, worried about the police, but not a word was spoken and we made friends with one of the Fountain Square maintenance men, giving me the impression that it is truly a free public space that can live up to its intended purpose.
On the humorous side, since the ice skating rink is up, there was blaring nonstop classic rock the entire three hours we where there. Such favorites as Ozzy Osborne's Crazy Train and the Rolling Stones Jumping Jack Flash were enjoyed by all. Not to mention ACDC's TNT.
I'm excited by the potential of future markets, and left feeling happy and reassured. This first experience has given me a lot of ideas for the improvement of the next market and I hope that they will be only more successful as they continue.
